CCTV cameras placed to monitor the locality around the Welsh Assembly buildings in Cardiff Bay were turned to point at private homes.

Five employees of the security team have received “disciplinary penalties” including formal warnings and “exclusion from promotion opportunities” according to an assembly spokesperson (via the BBC).

It worries me when I find myself agreeing with a Conservative (Assembly Member Jonathan Morgan) in saying that those responsible should have been sacked. Not only were the staff members, IMHO, negligent to the point of criminality, but the clear intent to disregard the privacy of local residents is inexcusable.

(Unless, of course, they were secretly working for Torchwood)
